Patricia (Patti) Ann Berken

August 30, 1953 — May 7, 2021

Patricia (Patti) Ann Berken (Tweener) entered into the Lord’s embrace, on May 7, 2021. Patti passed away after a three year battle with cancer. Patti was a strong-willed woman who fought a brave and courageous battle with a rare and aggressive cancer. She was a true Warrior who cherished God’s presence every step of the way. She blessed the late Ray and Rosemary Berken with her presence on August 30, 1953. Patti and her six siblings, affectionately known as The Big 7, grew up together in a loving, sharing, crowded, and magical home. Patti was the middle child. After 8 years of education at Saints Peter & Paul Elementary School, Patti graduated from East High School in 1972. On August 3, 1974 Patti married the late Brad Mueller and they had two wonderful children, Ryan Berken Mueller and Megan Rae (Mueller) Foat. Patti again found love and married Joe Wouters on November 27, 1999. They were married for 14 years.

Patti was an exceptional hair stylist and worked her magic with a scissors for many years. Patti co-owned A Cut Above and individually owned Hair Illusions and Tanning. Patti loved being a hairdresser and practiced for about 28 years until her health prevented her from continuing as a professional. Patti then undertook another career she loved as a nanny. Patti was blessed to have two different careers she excelled at and loved. Having grown up in a big family, Patti was perfect to know how to be a Nanny to another large family. She truly loved Jon and Mimi’s family and treasured all her moments with them.

Patti loved her two children and delighted in spending time with them: It might be watching movies with her son Ryan or playing Sequence with Megan Rae. Spending time with her kids at the cabin in Townsend filled many happy hours. Crocheting, cross-stitching, and needle pointing were crafts she loved and she busied herself with giving her homemade gifts.

Patti had an excellent singing voice and loved singing along to the radio, records, CDs, and definitely at church. Her clear soprano voice could be heard while her mother played the piano.

Patti was an amazing aunt to her many nieces and nephews. They all benefitted from her generosity and devotion, especially her goddaughter, Brianna (Berken) Kehoe. Patti had a very special relationship with her niece Ginny Lynn Berken. They spent time together before Ginny’s move to Florida and after that spoke on the phone on a daily basis.

Patti was an extremely giving person. Due to this, her favorite time of the year was Christmas. During gift exchange all the Berkens secretly hoped Patti would have their name. Patti needle-pointed Christmas socks for almost every member of the ever-growing Berken clan. These were always a labor of love Patti excelled at. At Christmas time Patti’s home was truly a Winter Wonderland. Her Christmas Tree was always a work of art. Hundreds of lights and at least one ornament on every single branch. For many years she decorated our home on Day St.

On October 4, 2013 Patti was overjoyed to welcome her beautiful granddaughter, Kcee Rose. Her trip to Walt Disney World with Megan Rae, son-in-law Ryan and Kcee was filled with memory-making moments. Watching the transformation of Kcee to Princess Belle was treasured. She loved videotaping Kcee riding her ATV at the Foat Family cabin in Gilman, playing outside and reading with her were also her favorites. Patti enjoyed ATV rides to see God’s splendor obvious in the autumn colors.

Patti again traveled on a once-in-a-lifetime fishing trip to Canada which she thoroughly loved, much to everyone’s surprise

Patti is survived by her beloved son, Ryan B. Mueller; her beloved daughter Megan Rae (Mueller) and Ryan Foat; her beloved granddaughter, Kcee Rose Foat; her siblings Craig and Kathy (Keeney) Berken, Tony and Bonnie (Nielsen) Berken, Mary Rae (Berken) and Jerry Johnson, Mike and Jean (Bowers) Berken, Kitti (Berken) and Vic Rodriguez, Karen (Berken) and Mike Watermolen and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Patti was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Rosemary Berken, and her niece, Heather Dantoin.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Prevea Oncology Staff, St. Vincent Hospital 9th floor staff, and Unity Hospice for their excellent care of their mother.
A special thank you to Craig and Kathy for their assistance and help with Patti’s many doctor’s appointments.
