Marion (Mary) S. Kunesh, 98, Green Bay passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Alpha Senior Concepts. Mary was born at home in Bellevue on March 23, 1925 to John P. and Caroline (Kerkoff) Verheyen. She attended grade school at St. Willebrord Catholic School. She met Joseph R. Kunesh when he was a worker on their family farm and later they were married at St. Philip Catholic Church on June 22, 1946. They were married 67 years before he passed away on January 9, 2014.
Mary was a proud homemaker. Joe always said "I married a good cook." She was a great baker, including bread, knee caps and many more tasty desserts. She loved to stitch and crochet pillow cases and do crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed her card clubs, bowling, golfing, fishing and was a devoted Packers fan attending many home games.
Mary is survived by her 3 children: Gary(Barbara) Kunesh, Joseph Jr.(Wendy) Kunesh, and Karen(Roger) Klapper; 8 grandchildren: Annette(Mike) Petersilka, Gary Jr.(Luvim) Kunesh, Ryan(Kelly) Kunesh, Justin(Mary Beth) Kunesh, Ashley Kunesh(Fernando Tshiananga), Emilie(Jason) Harr, Erin Klapper, and Dr. Alison(Jon) La Force; 15 great grandchildren; 2 brothers: Bernard(Elaine) Verheyen and Darrell Verheyen(Margene Marcantonio); 4 sisters-in-law, Betty, Delores, Nancy and Mary Verheyen; one brother-in-law, Jim Devroy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joe, brothers and sisters: Evelyn(Bud) Guerts, Florence(Carl) Gardipee, Elmer(Betty), Alvin(Elaine), Harold(Lil), John Jr., Nola(Fabian) Rentmeester, Clifford(Joanne), Eileen(Lloyd) Sigl, Juleen(Bernie) Scray, Delores, Cletus, Raymond, Clayton, Judy Devroy and Cyril.
Family and friends may visit Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 9 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am, with Fr. Jose Lopez officiating. Entombment will be in the Allouez Catholic Mausoleum.
The family extends a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Alpha Senior Concepts, especially Jennie, Paula and Ris as well as the staff at Compassus Hospice including Craig, Robin and Tanya, and all the other staff who helped with Mary's care over the years.
