Larry “Swag” Gill, Sr., 80, Green Bay, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Friday morning, Jan. 12, 2018, at his residence. Born Jan. 27, 1937, he is the son of the late George and Lillian (Blesch) Gill. Larry faithfully served in the US Army from 1955-58 and concluded his military service from the Army Reserves in 1961. He married the former Louella Clark on Oct. 4, 1958, in Green Bay and she preceded him in death on April 7, 2017. The couple served as active foster parents and eventually adopted four girls. Larry was also an enthusiastic Cub Scout leader. He was a faithful employee of Ft. Howard Paper Mill, Montgomery Wards, and eventually retired from Proctor and Gamble. While at P&G, he found great joy serving as a clown at all the company picnics and various other activities. Larry was a long-time volunteer for St. Vincent De Paul.
Larry is survived by five children, Cathy Gill, Larry (Debbie) Gill, Jr., Judy Bero, Laurie (“Gator”) Hicks, and Tammy (Steve) Luedeman, Jr.; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Ermine Cota; one brother, George (Anita) Gill; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John; and brothers and sisters.
Visitation at Malcore (West) Funeral Home, 1530 West Mason St., Sat. Jan. 20th, from 11am until the time of the funeral. Funeral service 1pm Sat. at the funeral home with Chaplain Brooks Darrah of Heartland Hospice officiating. Full military honors to follow. Entombment in Ft. Howard Mausoleum at a later date.
Larry’s family requests that absolutely no financial gifts be made to the family.
