Karen T. Schroeder, 81, Green Bay, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, July 26, 2024, while at a local hospital. Born April 6, 1943, in Chicago, she is the daughter of the late George and Lillian (Guth) Schroeder. As a child, Karen loved going fishing with her dad and eating sugared tomatoes with her mom. She would often attend the Lincoln Park Zoo and the Brookfield Zoo with her parents. The family lived for a time in Door County near Potawatomi State Park where she enjoyed nature, playing near the ski hill and climbing the tower. As a young lady, Karen enjoyed playing the accordion. She received her LPN Degree from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in 1969, and her bachelor's degree from Silver Lake College in 1991. Karen was employed with Brown County Mental Health Center for 10 years and later at St. Vincent Hospital for 20 years. Always curious, Karen enjoyed participating in The Lifelong Learning Institute in her retirement.
Karen was very active at the Eastside YMCA, exercising 6 days per week. She loved nature and all animals, especially turtles. She enjoyed sitting on her screen porch where she could watch her birds, and always had a dog at her side. Karen served as a judge at various county fairs with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture. She was proud to be a 10 gallon blood donor. Karen was a devoted Cubs fan and watched whenever able. She was a steadfast, kind and sincere person who will be missed by her many friends and family members.
Karen made an effort to build an outgoing personality. She was a quiet, friendly soul who was proud of her ability to reach out and try new things all by herself. Karen wanted all people to be accepted no matter their differences.
"Say not in grief 'She is no more' but live in thanksgiving that she was." (A Hebrew Proverb)
