Elaine McMahon was born to Jerome and Helen (Buehner) on January 14, 1947 and lived mostly in Waterloo, IA. She was a nurse for 37 years, starting as an aide and retiring as an RN. She was a single parent who balanced work and school, but she always made time for family and friends. Her fondest memories include taking her nieces, nephews and son to the park. Her health relentlessly declined for almost 20 years, and she increasingly relied upon her loyal friends. Last year she moved to Green Bay, where she enjoyed seeing her grandchildren frequently. She died peacefully on February 26, 2018, soon after a visit from her dear sister. Her patients would say she was smart and caring, her friends that she was generous and fun, and her family that she was loving.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Elaine is survived by her five siblings; her son, David; daughter-in-law, Michelle; and her adored grandchildren, Jonah and Ava.
Her family is grateful for the care she received at Unity Hospice, Bellin Hospital and Wound Clinic, with special gratitude for Tina Schmidt, PA; Dr. Hadi Khan, her compassionate surgeon; and anesthesiologist, Dr. Paul Anderson who made her laugh. Her last year was spent at Bornemann Nursing Home, and the caring staff was exceptional.
Visitation will be at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 3009 Bay Settlement Rd, Green Bay, starting at 10 a.m. on April 7, 2018, with the Mass of Resurrection at 11 a.m. In lieu of gifts, the family asks that donations be made to the Holy Cross Catholic School Scholarship Fund.
