Allen “Al” Varga, 60, formerly of Algoma and Two Rivers, passed away Monday, November 17, 2014, at a local nursing home surrounded by his loving family. Born September 30, 1954, in Algoma, he is the son of the late Burt and Violet (Wallace) Varga. Al graduated from Algoma High School, Class of 1972. Al was a kind and gentle man of great faith who enjoyed all the simple things in life. He loved his family deeply, especially his sons, Josh, Ben and Joe. Al loved family gatherings, estate sales and thrift shops where he found his “treasures”, old black and white movies (Humphrey Bogart), listening to music (Bruce Springsteen), and grilling and hanging out with his brothers. He was caretaker for his parents for many years and comforter to his sister, Jean, when they “lived” two doors down at the nursing home. Al was known as the “peacemaker” when it was needed. He is our hero for his strength and determination, his spirit and sense of humor that cancer could not steal from him.
Al is survived by his sons, Josh and Ben; step-son, Joe Phillips (fiancee’, Bridget); step-grandchildren, Madison, Noah, and Ally; step-great-granddaughter, Chloe; four sisters, Mary Bauer, Linda (Bob) Adlebush, Kathy (“Heimer”) Nessinger, and Betty (Mark) Reimer; five brothers, Dave (Nancy), Steve, Harold (Debbie), Walt, and Gary (Louise) Varga; brother-in-law, Wayne Buell; other special relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean Buell; great-nephew, Zander; and niece, Stacey.
Visitation at Malcore (West) Funeral Home, 1530 West Mason Street, Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, from 1 pm until the time of the memorial service and sharing of memories at 4 pm.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home.
Al’s family thanks Dr. Nancy Davis, Dr. David Rohde and Southern Care Hospice. A special thank you to his family for the many visits and all the love and support provided over the past two years.
