Lorraine Mae Nooyen, 87, De Pere, died at home on Saturday, September 19, 2015. She was born April 10, 1928, in Green Bay, Wisconsin to the late Fred and Elizabeth “Libby” (Dvorak) Monfils. When Lorraine was only 3 weeks old, her mother passed away, leaving her in the care of her uncle and aunt, Henry and Hortense (DeBauche) Monfils, who raised her as their own daughter.
Lorraine shared 52 years of her life with Raymond John Nooyen, whom she married on April 20, 1950, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on April 11, 2002. Lorraine was a member of Blessed Sacrament Episcopal Church, ECW (Episcopal Church Women) and the seamstress for the Altar Guild. When her children were growing up, she devoted a great deal of her time to the Girls Scouts organization as a scout leader. Lorraine had a love for crafts, and taught her daughters and grandchildren to use their talents to their fullest. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, sewing and creating beautiful braided rugs. Lorraine also loved shopping for bargains at the local thrift stores, playing Yahtzee, going to the casinos, and visiting with friends.
Survivors include six daughters and three sons-in-law, Thomas and Linda Kwaterski of Oneida, Susan Nooyen of De Pere, James and Heidi Stenson of Green Bay, James and Debra Lehman of New London, Virginia “Ginnie” Van Asten, and Annemarie “Annie” Nooyen, both of Bay; 12 grandchildren, Christopher and Eric Kwaterski, Neil and Dawn Loehlein, Jamie (Stenson) De Vos, Aaron Stenson, Dustin Ott, Nina (Sengbusch) Gross, Nick Sengbusch, Korina, Kolton, and Karmen Schroeder; and 9 great-grandchildren, Eliza and Adele De Vos, Jerree Nelson-Stenson, Maliyah Lynn Tucker, Claire and Taylor Ott, Finnegan Gross, and Zoe and Drake Sengbusch; one sister, Rosemary Schultz of New Berlin; one brother and sister-in-law, Louie and Ethel Monfils of Green Bay; one sister-in-law, Betty (Van Pay) Nooyen of Little Chute; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and foster parents; two brothers, Gilbert and Raymond Monfils; three sisters, Madonna Monfils, Betty Lee and Irene Schwiner; five brothers-in-law, Leonard Lee, Raymond Schwiner, Gerald Schultz, Raphael Nooyen and Milton Vanden Hoven; one sister-in-law, Evelyn (Nooyen) Vanden Hoven; her in-laws, John “Jack” and Virginia “Peg” (Meyer) Nooyen; and her son-in-law, David B. Ott.
Visitation at Blessed Sacrament Episcopal Church, 825 N. Webster Ave., Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with her grandsons as pallbearers, and the Rev. Michael Scolare officiating. Burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, De Pere. Malcore Funeral Home is assisting the family 432-5579.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up for the Church.
