Juel Marie Golueke

November 5, 1912 — June 13, 2015

Juel Marie Golueke, 102, (nee Fillion) passed away peacefully at home on June 13, 2015, with her family by her side. Juel was born the youngest of six children on November 5, 1912, (the day Woodrow Wilson was elected president), to Joseph E. and Mae Rose (Bonno) Fillion in Blaney, Michigan. Her family moved to Hiles, WI, for a short period, then moved to Argonne where Juel spent the remainder of her youth, attending Argonne grade school/high school and helping at her parents store, Fillion Groceries. In later years, Juel loved to tell stories about the people and events from that time in her life.

Juel came to Green Bay in '31 to attend St. Mary's School of Nursing, training at Milwaukee Children's Hospital and Wausau Sanitarium, she graduated class of '34, obtaining her RN license. While in Green Bay, Juel met the love of her life, Charles M. Golueke. They were married in Argonne, April 10, 1939, residing in Green Bay before moving to De Pere in the late 40's.

Juel worked as a nurse at St.Vincent Hospital, before becoming a full-time mother. She continued to volunteer as a Red Cross nurse at the area blood banks and also worked at St. Norbert's student clinic in the 1970s.

Juel loved music. Her father said she was humming full melodies before she could talk. She shared her wonderful singing voice in local groups and with her family. One of the first pieces of furniture they purchased after marriage was her prized baby grand piano, which she played very well. Juel enjoyed collecting dessert recipes and was an amazing cook. An avid reader - almost to the age of 100. Learning to crochet at the age of 12, it became a lifelong hobby. Juel crocheted enough afghans and scarves to supply family and friends many times over. Not to be forgotten was her love of animals in particular the many family dogs throughout the years - who knew a treat was near if so was she.

Juel enjoyed spending time with family at their northwoods retreat near Crivitz. Traveling the western states with Charles after his retirement, including her beloved Canadian Rockies.

Juel stayed active with the St. Mary's Alumni, was a past member of the Neville Museum Geology Club and volunteered at Heritage Hill State Park. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, De Pere and was a past member of their Altar Rosary Society.

She is survived by her children, Mary (Roland) Hebeler, Robert Golueke, Chuck Golueke, and Mark (Ann) Golueke; grandchildren, Sarah and Nick Hebeler, Eric (fiancée, Courtney), Scott (Erica), and Paul Golueke; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles who passed away in December of 2004, her son, Gregory Golueke; and her siblings and their spouses, Earl (Pearl) Fillion, Edwin (Agnes) Fillion, William Fillion, Priscella (Russell) Samz, and Margarette Fillion;

Friends may call at St. Francis Xavier Church, De Pere, 220 S. Michigan Street, from 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 19 until the time of the Memorial Mass at noon with the Very Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Burial at St. Mary's Cemetery in Argonne, WI.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff (and friends) at Unity Hospice for their wonderful care, Juel's amazingly wonderful in-home caregivers, Deb, Lucy and Carol; JoAnn from church; and Juel's dearest friend, Carol Golueke. God bless you all!
