Joseph J. Laes, 91, Green Bay, passed away early Tuesday morning, Sept. 27, 2016, at a local hospital with his family at his side. Born Sept. 21, 1925, in Green Bay, he is the son of the late Arthur and Cecelia (Van Roy) Laes. Joe faithfully served his country during WWII landing on Normandy Beach on D-Day plus seven. He was the sole survivor of his unit following the invasion and received a Purple Heart. After returning from the service, Joe married Beverly Mineau in November of 1949 and she preceded him in death on August 26, 1982. Joe was a greatly skilled handyman, inventor and gifted cook. He will also be remembered for his enjoyment of Big Band Music and caring for Sandra and Bob’s pets.
Joe is survived by his children, Sandra (Robert) Bloedorn and Mike (special friend, Julie Larson) Laes, all of DePere; nine siblings, Betty Laes, Jimmy (Patty) Laes, Ray Laes, Molly (Jack) LaViolette, Bobby Laes, Sherry Mero, Mary Koty, David Laes, and Bonnie (Dan) Hall; sisters-in-law, Jerri Feldhausen and Fran Staniak; brother-in-law, Richard (Maureen) Staniak; dear friend and nephew, David Zepnick; and many very caring nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 33 years, Beverly; siblings, Earl (Mary Jane) Laes; LaVerne Rowell, Larry (Rosemary) Laes, and Carl Laes, Donna (Carl) Burkel; brother-in-law, Robin Jorgensen; and nephews, Russel and Ronnie Laes.
Visitation at Malcore (East) Funeral Home, 701 N. Baird Street, Saturday, Oct. 1, from 9am until the time of the service. Memorial service 11am Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Tappa officiating with full military honors to follow. Burial will be in Fort Howard Memorial Park.
