James Stanley Olson

February 16, 1937 — September 18, 2021

James S. Olson life's journey ended on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at the Jack and Engrid Meng Residence of Unity Hospice. He was born in Green Bay on Feb. 16, 1937 the son of R.J and Caryl (Carpenter) Olson. On August 17,1990 he married Genrose Heinzen at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Green Bay.
He graduated from East High School and took continuing education classes at NWTC. He was employed at James River/Georgia Pacific Co. for 40 years, retiring in 1996. He served in the Army Reserve for 20 years, retiring as First Sgt. with the 84th Division(TNG). He was very proud of his years of service and never took vacations during his military career, but spent those weeks at summer camp in various states. Jim was quick with a witty comeback and enjoyed making people laugh. Jim coached the Packers from his arm chair and was especially verbal about missed tackles and inadequate protection of the quarterback. The last game he attended at the stadium he stated "I froze to death".
Jim loved to golf and hike the mountains of AZ while wintering in Mesa after retirement. Jim and Gen enjoyed traveling and took many trips through out the states and abroad. Twice enjoying the Military Recreation Hotel, the Hale Koa on Waikiki Beach, Honolulu, Hawaii.
Survivors include his wife Genrose, 2 daughters and one son-in-law, Cheryl Olson, DePere, and Michelle (Mikki) (Bob) Porter, Florida. Other survivors include one brother and sister-in-laws, Robert (Sandy) Olson, Joyce Olson, nephews, nieces and friends. He was pre-deceased by his parents, brother Dale, sister and brother-in-law Nancy (James) Felton, brother in-laws and sister in-laws, Robert and Shirley Wenzel, Gene and Corrine Revolinsky.
Malcore East Funeral Home, 701 N. Baird St. Green Bay is handling funeral arrangements. Visitation on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum (2770 Bay Settlement Road, Green Bay, WI 54311) from 9 a.m. until the time of memorial service at 11 a.m. Full military honors will follow. Inurnment to take place following military honors. Masks recommended but not required.
