Genevieve M. Burgoyne, 94, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, died Monday, September 23, 2013, at ManorCare West nursing home surrounded by her adoring husband and children. She was born October 9, 1918, in De Pere, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Dejonghe) Deloye. Her brother Norbert preceded her in death as a young boy. On May 5, 1945 she married Glenn R. Burgoyne who affectionately called her “Gen”. At the time of her death Gen and Glenn had been married for 68 years.
Genevieve graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy high school as the valedictorian of her class in 1936. She turned down a full scholarship to The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN. so as to look after her ailing father. She attended Green Bay Business College where she met her husband Glenn and upon graduation worked as an executive secretary for two years at the Wisconsin Public Service. Genevieve was an active member of St. Joseph’s parish of Green Bay and volunteered for the Altar Rosary Society, Meals on Wheels, and the Third Order of St. Francis. She was also a Girl Scout leader, a Cub Scout den mother, school reading tutor, and the mother of 4 Eagle Scouts. She had a lifelong interest in the study and practice of nutrition. In addition she enjoyed cross country skiing, biking, and playing bridge. She was a devout Catholic and a generous and charitable person who always focused on the best in everyone she encountered. She was very devoted to her husband and children and had a wonderful sense of humor.
In addition to her husband Glenn she is survived by their six children Virginia Burgoyne of Green Bay, Mark (Sandy) Burgoyne of Cedarburg, Paul (Mary Jo) Burgoyne of Milwaukee, Marie Burgoyne of Allouez, Claude (Vicki) Burgoyne of Portland, OR. and Frank Burgoyne of San Francisco, CA. She is also survived by her grandchildren Andrew (Adrienne), Lauren, Jared (Kendal), Tricia, Nettie (Dan) Bell, and great grandchildren Brett, Jacob, Reese and Landon.
Visitation will be held at MALCORE (West) Funeral Home 1530 West Mason St., from 4-8 P.M. Friday. Parish wake service 7 P.M. Friday at the funeral home by Sr. Toni Jendrasiak. Visitation will continue Saturday at St. Joseph’s Parish, 936 Ninth Street, Green Bay from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the funeral. Funeral Saturday 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph Parish with Rev. Ryan Krueger officiating. Burial in Fort Howard Cemetery.
