Ethel Rose Gonnering, 90, Green Bay, died peacefully at a local nursing home on June 11, 2013, surrounded by family. Born on April 27, 1923, in Carmel, Minnesota, she is the daughter of the late Gideon and Inga (Stenmoen) Olson. On April 18, 1942, she married Arnold Gonnering in Minnesota, and he preceded her in death on March 24, 1983. Ethel enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cooking, and baking. She was also very musical by nature, and had the ability to play the piano, guitar, and harmonica. Ethel cherished times spent at her cottage in Athelstane. She had a wonderful heart, was loved by all, and she will be fondly remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Ethel is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, David (Polly) Gonnering, De Pere, and their children, Nick Gonnering, and Jenna (Corey) Schumacher; John (Julie) Gonnering, Suamico, and their children, Amber (Chris) Griffin, Lacey Glasl, and Landon Gonnering; and four additional grandchildren, Amy (Elton) Smith, John (Sue), Jeff (Paula) Gonnering, and Jake (Amy) Gonnering; twelve great grandchildren, Danielle, Malakai, Polly Ann, Ashton, Brayden, Aaron, Emily, Zach, Abbey, Elizabeth, Stephanie, and Parker; great great grandchildren; and one sister, Violet Wold.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Arnold Gonnering, Jr.; six brothers, Kenneth, Galen, Glen, Lawrence “Cookie”, Lyle, and Vern; one sister, Eileen Thompson; and two brothers-in-law, Juel Wold and Morris Thompson.
Visitation at Malcore (East) Funeral Home, University Ave. at Baird St., Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Funeral service 3:00 p.m. at Malcore (East) Funeral Home with the Rev. David Werner officiating. Entombment at Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
Ethel will always be remembered for her kindness and caring ways; her easy-going, fun-loving nature, and all her joy and laughter.
To know her was to love her. As she always said, “I’ll see you in the Funny Papers.”
