Emmett Francis Weniger

Emmett Francis Weniger, 94, passed away peacefully, on November 11, 2013, Veteran’s Day, and entered heaven with his wife, Irene. He was born in Hartford, S.D. May 26, 1919, to the late Irving and Elizabeth (Stone) Weniger. Emmett married Irene Lutterman in 1948, in Sioux Falls, S.D. where they resided until moving to Green Bay in 1959. They spent 61 wonderful years together until Irene’s death in December, 2009. Emmett attended the University of Minnesota School of Agriculture, earning a Farm Management degree in 1941. He then attended the National School of Aeronautics, receiving a degree in aircraft repair and began work building B-25 Bombers for WWII. In 1943, Emmett enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served in the South Pacific and China. After WWII, Emmett began work for Monroe Calculating Co. (Litton Industries) in Sioux Falls, S.D. He transferred with the company to Green Bay in 1959 as an assistant service manager and later worked as service manager until his retirement in 1983. After retiring, Emmett and Irene enjoyed 17 winters in Florida and Arizona.

Emmett enjoyed a rich and fulfilling life. He was a faithful and active member of First United Methodist Church for 53 years, a Mason at Daylite Lodge #360 of Green Bay, and a member of the Green Bay Shriners Club. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Emmett was a hard working, caring and devoted man and his greatest joys in life were spending time with his family and living his faith. He loved reading and learning about new things, golfing, goose hunting, fishing, making and fixing things, his flower gardens, the Packers, and he never stopped dreaming and planning for his next great travel adventure, even at 94. Emmett loved telling jokes, stories, and giving his heartfelt prayers at family gatherings. His motto was: Live Well, Love Much, and Laugh Often.

Emmett will be sadly missed by his children, LaDonna Glass, Waukesha, Elberta Bannon (Jerry), Green Bay, and Warren Weniger, Sheboygan; five grandchildren, Ryan, Eric, and Sarah Glass, Jeffrey Bannon (Jeanie), Lindsay Smith (Adam); great grandson, Grayson Smith; and one sister, Joy Crist, Kingston, N.Y.; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irving and Elizabeth Weniger; his wife, Irene; his three brothers, Richard Weniger, Phoenix, AZ, Kenneth Weniger, Madison, MN, and Robert Weniger, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Visitation at First United Methodist Church, 501 Howe Street, Friday, Dec. 27th, 2013 from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the Masonic Service at 1:30 P.M. and Memorial Service at 2:00 P.M., at the church with Rev. Dave Wilkinson officiating. Malcore (East) Funeral Home is caring for the family. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church of Green Bay.

Emmett’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the compassionate staff of Unity Hospice and all the CNA’s and staff of Brookview Meadows who made Emmett’s life so pleasurable with their loving care, concern, and kindness.
