Dean William Sproul

December 31, 1948 — March 17, 2017

Dean William Sproul, 68, Green Bay, WI, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 17, 2017. Born December 31, 1948, in Stoughton, WI, he is the son of Ruthann (Greig) Sproul Stach and the late James Sproul. After graduating from Stoughton High School, he married Barbara Maerz and together they had three children: a son, Troy, and two daughters, Kristine and Kerri.  In 1972, he joined the Air Force traveling throughout the world with his family.  While in the Air Force, he lived in Omaha, NE; Las Vegas, NV; Manitowoc & Green Bay, WI; Dayton, OH; and the Azores.  Dean was an active member of the US Air Force Thunderbirds from 1976-1979.

He later married Jodi McBride; together they had a son, Zachary and he gained a step-daughter, Casey.  Dean retired from the Air Force while in Dayton, OH, and then moved back to Wisconsin to be close to family & friends.

Dean enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and dogs. In recent years, he was able to reunite with his fellow Thunderbird alumni on an Alaskan cruise. Dean enjoyed playing cards, watching movies, Bingo, barbecuing, fishing, collecting various items, and watching the Packers play football, both live and on the TV.

Dean is survived by his mother, Ruthann Stach of Stoughton; his children, Troy Sproul, Kristine (Michael) Cumbers, Kerri Sproul and Zachary Sproul; step-daughter, Casey Kemp; eight grandchildren: Alexis, Kylie, Ashlynn, Morgan, Kristoffer, Bree, Stephen (Olivia), and Shantel (Michael); seven great-grandchildren:  Qwyn, Zander, Anthony, Zayden, Riley, Isabella and Sawyer; ten siblings, Steve (Sonjia), Diane (Kathy), David (Mindy), Kathy (John), Jeff (Jeanine), Sally (Rodney), Connie (Steve), Jayne (Lisa), Paul (Dana), and Kevin (Gloria); the mothers of his children, Barbara (David) Nennig and Jodi (Chris) Lawrence; and many family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Sproul; his step-mother, Alberta “Bea” Sproul; and his brother, Gary Sproul.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 1, 2017, at the Otis Sampson American Legion Post 59, 803 N. Page St., Stoughton, WI from 1-3pm.  Committal service will take place at 3pm Saturday at Riverside Cemetery and will include full military honors.

A special thank you to the staff of the Veteran’s Home at King for caring for Dean for over two and a half years and also Heartland Hospice in his final year and half; especially Amanda & Lisa, his primary nurses from both places respectively, along with Ma.
