David Smith, 88, Allouez, passed away unexpectedly, Tues. Jan. 26, 2016, at home. Born July 16, 1927, in Rabey, MN, he is the son of the late Ethan Allen and Leda (Carlson) Smith. At the age of 3 years old, Dave’s family moved to Allouez. He learned an excellent work ethic as a youngster helping to support the family. This was the foundation of the personal sacrifice needed in the raising of his own children. He graduated from East High School. Dave faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army, training truck drivers at West Point. After the military, Dave began his career in the grocery business, starting as a stocker and clerk at Red Owl and worked his way up in the company. Dave retired in 1986 as a grocery buyer with SuperValu. Dave married Laurelle Delvoye Sept. 17, 1955, at Annunciation Church. Dave will be remembered for his enjoyment of hockey, both as a player in his younger years and later coaching some of his children.
