Darrel R. Molzahn

March 31, 1927 — November 16, 2015

Darrel Molzahn passed away peacefully on Monday, November 16th. He was born in Green Bay, where aside from a short term in the Air Force at the end of WWII, he spent his entire life. The son of Albert and Phoebe (Servais), Darrel is preceded in death by his five brothers, Melvin, Warren, Kenneth, Albert and James. He is survived by his lone sister, Elizabeth (Jenkel), whom he always held with great regard for the support she provided when their mother died at an early age.

Darrel was married to Jean (Van Lannen) on June 7th, 1952. Together they raised five sons: Mike (Green Bay), Tom (San Antonio, TX), Jeff (Madison), Chris (Green Bay), and Patrick (Madison). He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, 13 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.

Darrel worked for the Green Bay Board of Education for 42 years, until he retired in 1989. He also owned the Dairy Queen business on Green Bay’s north side from 1977-1985. In his free time, Darrel enjoyed travelling, square dancing, hunting, fishing, and playing cards. An avid Packer fan, Darrel spent many years affiliated with the organization.

After Darrel underwent open-heart surgery in the early 1980’s, he and Jean were frequent volunteers at the Bellin Cardiac Center, working to assist the families of patients. Darrel was also a volunteer for the Red Cross, helping deliver blood donations across the state. He was very grateful for the care he received from the staff of Bellin Hospital, Dr. Fuchs, Dr. Pritchard, and in his final days with Unity Hospice.

Darrel’s final years were spent caring for his wife Jean. In 2000, she underwent knee surgery, from which she never fully recovered. Darrel patiently stood by her side, faithfully making the daily trip to her nursing home to visit her during his final years of life. Darrel is fondly remembered for his kind nature, dedication, loyalty, and optimism.
