Clayton J. Hennessey

September 24, 1930 — November 29, 2020

Clayton J. Hennessey, age 90 of Green Bay, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at his home. He was born on September 24, 1930 in Wrightstown, WI to the late Louis and Kathryn (Van Vreede) Hennessey Sr.

Clayton graduated from the Wrightstown School systems in 1948 with an athletic history, for which he was very proud. Clayton participated in the 1st game and was the 1st team member of Wrightstown High School's eleven man football team in 1946. In his youth, he worked on the family farm followed by Schmidt Farm for three years. From there Clayton proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He served as a heavy equipment operator for SCARWAF (special category of Alaska Air Force) and was stationed at Elmendorf Alaska Air Command. Once he was honorably discharged, Clayton worked for three years at Appleton Coated, eleven years with St. Joe’s youth program in Green Bay and 21 years at UWGB in campus maintenance.

Through the years, Clayton was a hobbyist with antique cars. He enjoyed basketball and football and played softball up until he was into his 70’s (you read that right, into his 70's). He was an American Legion member and a 30-year National Family member of Kaiser Frazer Auto Club of America.

Left to cherish Clayton’s memory are his sister, Shirley Hennessey; numerous nieces and nephews, Alice and Dorothy Kempen, Sharon (Randy) Gascoigne, Judy (John) Schmalz, Mary (Jeff) VandenBoogaard, Bob Hennessey, Janet (Guy) Van Dyn Hoven, Kathy (special friend Russ) VanToll, Don (Tara) Hennessey, Mark (Lisa) Hennessey, Vicki (special friend Todd) Hennessey, Russ Hennessey and Scott Hennessey; and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Gladys (Steven) Kempen, Kenneth (Delores) Hennessey, Blanch Hennessey and Louis (Joanne) Hennessey Jr.; niece, Helen Beetem and nephew, Larry Hennessey.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held for Clayton at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church (710 N. Baird St). Fr. Jose Lopez will officiate the service. Visitation will be held at church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Clayton will be laid to rest in the St. Paul Catholic Cemetery in Wrightstown where full military honors will be performed.

The family would like to send a thank you to the staff and owner at Julie’s Café and to the staff at Bellin Hospital and Unity Hospice (especially Christy) for all the care and support they showed for Clayton. A special thank you to Mark (Lisa) Hennessey for all the love and special attention to Clayton, especially during his last few days.
