Calvin J. Abts, 83, Luxemburg, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2014, with his family by his side. Born July 14, 1931, he is the son of the late Theodore and Mamie (Mohimont) Abts, Sr. Cal married the former Joyce Marie Pennings in 1955 at St. Louis Church, Dyckesville and she preceded him in death on October 17, 2011. He farmed his whole life as well as being the founder and co-owner of Cliff and Cal Abts Bou Matic in New Franken. Cal was a member of St. Joseph Church, Champion, the Holy Name Society, was the former Director of the Brown County Farm Bureau. During his free time he liked playing cards, bingo, solitaire on his computer, and popping popcorn for his grandchildren.
Calvin is survived by nine children, Terry (Joseph) Bauer, St. Charles Ill., Greg (Debbie) Abts, New Franken, Virginia (Jody) Van Laanen, Green Bay, Veronica (Steven) McNicoll, De Pere, Laurie (Richard) Davister, Luxemburg, Barb VandenBush, New Franken, Jan (Tom) Klika, Green Bay, Andy (Peggy) Abts, Luxemburg, Dennis (Elizabeth) Abts, Eau Claire; 34 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Clifford (Marge) Abts of New Franken; 2 sisters, Agatha (Don) Pigeon of New Franken, and Agnes (Norris) Servais of Franksville; brother-in-law, Martin Heim, Green Bay; many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Douglas VandenBush; great-grandchild, Joseph Schmidt; sisters, Mabel (Henry) Delwiche, Florence (Steve) Gadamus, Loretta (Vernon) Wautlet, Lily Heim, and Dorothy Abts; brothers, Robert (Florence) Abts, Ted Abts, and Russell Abts.
Visitation at Malcore (East) Funeral Home, 701 N. Baird Street, Wednesday (8/20) from 3:00-9:00 P.M. Parish wake service 8:00 P.M. Wednesday (8/20). Thursday’s (8/21) visitation will continue at St. Joseph Church, Champion from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Andrew J. Kurz officiating. Entombment at Shrine of the Good Shepherd.
