Vincent William Overberg, 58, Sobieski, formerly of Racine, died unexpectedly, Friday, July 17, 2015, at a local hospital. Born in Davenport, Iowa, August 7, 1956, he is the son of Geneva (Eidson) Overberg and the late Maurice G. Overberg of Racine, WI.
Vince grew up in Racine, Wisconsin. He graduated from Saint Catherine’s High School. He attended college at UW Madison and graduated from UW Parkside.
Vince worked at JI Case Manufacturing in Racine, WI before moving to Green Bay in 1986 where he worked for Green Bay Drop Forge, Paper Converting Machine Company, and Century 21 Realty.
He was an outdoor enthusiast whose activities include fishing, hunting, boating, XC skiing, and mountain biking. Vince was an avid kayaker and kayak instructor. He met Jane Barnes in 1986 through the Green Bay Paddlers United Kayaking Club. Their many adventures together included kayaking the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon, sea kayaking and camping in Alaska, whitewater kayaking some of the best rivers in the US and extended trips in Mexico and Costa Rica. They also enjoyed upland bird hunting with their English Setter, Jesse.
Vince married Jane B. Barnes on August 5, 1994 in a beautiful outdoor ceremony at their home in Sobieski, WI.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Barnes; mother, Geneva Overberg; brothers, Wayne Overberg (Margaret Devalle Overberg) and Joe Overberg; and sister, Mary Overberg Cuccia (Tom Cuccia); nieces, Amanda Urban, Emily Cuccia, and Allison Cuccia; and nephew, Chris Overberg (Molly Wolfe Overberg); and a multitude of friends.
Vince was preceded in death by his father, Maurice G. Overberg; sister, Rita Overberg Urban; and brother-in-law, Dennis Urban.
Funeral Service at 1:00 PM Thursday at St. Maximillian Kolbe, 6051 Noble Street, Sobieski. A gathering will follow at the Brown County Reforestation Camp, Ski Lodge, at 2:30 PM Thursday. Malcore (West) Funeral Home cared for the family.
