Sylvester R. Mier

Sylvester R. Mier, 86, Green Bay, passed away January 30, 2015, surrounded by his family. Born on November 11, 1928, he is the son of the late Theodore and Annie Mier. He married the former Mavis Whiting on June 30, 1951, in Green Bay. Sylvester worked in a variety of capacities, concluding his career as a Shear Operator at Lasch Wrecking. He was an avid outdoorsman and was a volunteer at Paul’s Pantry for the past 29 years distinguished by investing the largest number of volunteer hours.

Sylvester is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mavis; seven children, Lorraine (Robert) Peters of Green Bay, Raymond (Rebecca) Mier, of Oconto, Janet Mier (Ken Keith) of Suring, Delmar (Deb) Mier of Oconto Falls, Bryan Mier (Diana Heider) of Crivitz, Bruce Mier (Tina VandenHeuvel) of Sobieski, Lori Mier (Mark May) of Green Bay; 16 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren and two brothers, Melvin Mier and Fred (Ann) Mier; his pug and his best friend, Snickers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Annie Mier; one granddaughter, Christine Mier; four brothers and four sisters.

Visitation at Malcore (East) Funeral Home, Monday, February 2, from 4 PM until 8 PM. Visitation will continue Tuesday, February 3, from 10 AM to 11 AM at the church. A Christian memorial service honoring Ray will be conducted at 11 AM at Bridge Point Church in Green Bay-intersection of West Point Road, Ninth Street and Wood Lane. Officiating at the service will be John C. Nehs, lead pastor, and Joseph H. Gaunt, minister of pastoral care.
