Suzanne Marie Gilman

July 14, 1944 — March 3, 2017

Suzanne Marie Loftness Gilman, born July 14, 1944, in Sibley County, Minnesota, passed away on March 3, 2017. Suzanne grew up in a small town, Gibbon, Minnesota, born to Gerhard Loftness and Eunice Arhart Loftness.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, John B. Gilman, De Pere; daughter, Sarah E. (Jeremy Madsen) Gilman, Alameda, CA; and their children, Stella and Ian; daughter, Molly M. (Cory) Gilman Fulton, Madison; and their children, Ben and Miles.

Suzanne graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. She worked for the University of Wisconsin Social Work Department in Milwaukee neighborhoods in the late 1960s, and made homes for her family in several cities across America before settling in Green Bay. Her interests included physical exercises of all sorts, working out at the Broadview YMCA, hiking local trails, and taking evening walks with her good neighbor, Ellie Mohr. Suzanne was devoted to her church, which she served in many ways over the years, including the United Methodist Women and Ruth Circle, with her close friend Loretta Delvaux. Suzanne was also a longtime volunteer at the Hazelwood Historic Home and generally supported the work of the Brown County Historical Society.

Suzanne and her husband, John, loved to travel. They explored the world, going to such places as Costa Rica, Europe, North Africa, Turkey, Mexico, Norway, Ireland, and several cruises. Her greatest passion, however, were her grandchildren. All four of them, ages 3-12 at the time of her passing, provided her with many years of joy, entertainment, and adventure.

Suzanne will be greatly missed by family and friends.
