It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Lee O’Connell, 65, Green Bay on Wednesday evening, Jan. 21, 2015, following a short illness. Born Dec. 17, 1949, in Green Bay, she is the daughter of Cecilia “Ceil” (Dernbach) O’Connell and the late Robert “Bud” O’Connell. Mary attended Saints Peter & Paul Grade School and graduated from East High School, Class of 1968. She then went to work for H.C. Prange’s as a buyer’s assistant and finished her career at St. Vincent Hospital as a HIM Associate, officially retiring Dec. 3, 2014.
A caregiver at heart Mary spent a good part of her life looking after other people including her father who spent his last years living with Mary and most recently her mother. Birthdays, anniversaries and other special events were never forgotten. Christmas was her favorite holiday. She could wrap a present to perfection and would include a special ornament tied to the bow for every person on her list. Her caramels were a family favorite. Mary was very proud of her Irish heritage and along with her mother and sister visited Ireland in 2005.
Mary is survived by her mother and best friend, Ceil; three siblings and their families: Paul and Pam O’Connell and their sons, Corey (Kelly) and Judd (Kristen); Judy DuBois and her children, Jody (Chris) Stangler and Joe DuBois; Mark and Julie O’Connell and their daughter, Kelley (Scott) Selissen; eight great nieces and nephews; special family friend, Bob Gonnering; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bud.
In keeping with Mary’s wishes, the family will have a private family gathering.
Malcore (East) Funeral Home is serving the family.
Irish Blessing
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
The rain fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
