Mary Bunker, 89, Green Bay, died peacefully at a local assisted living facility on September 7, 2014, after a brief illness. Born on December 25, 1924, she is the daughter of the late Edward and Dena (Vandenack) Brunner. On November 11, 1944, she married John “Jack” Bunker at Saints Peter and Paul Church, and he preceded her in death on June 11, 1993. Mary worked many years as school monitor at Washington Middle School in room 209, and at East High School. She was well known for her noteworthy phrases such as, “can it,” and “put a lid on it.” Mary cherished spending time with family and friends, especially times in the back yard around the fire pit. In her later years she enjoyed playing Tile Rummy and cards with her good friends, Eileen, Mary Kay, Corky, Roland, Ruth, and Angie. Mary also enjoyed times spent with her birthday club ladies and special times with her sister, Joan “Rita,” and her sister-in-law, Pat Brunner.
Mary is survived by two daughters, Dianne (Mike) Nowicki, Enterprise, AL, and Barbara (Larry) Maxwell, Green Bay; two sons, John (Darice) Bunker, Luxemburg, and Jeffrey (Mary Jo) Bunker, Appleton; nine grandchildren, Matt (Michelle) Bunker, Luke (fiancée, Cheryl) Bunker, Nick (fiancée, Sara) Bunker, Danielle Bunker, Jenny (Jesse) Schwan, Jenny (Dung) Tran, Michelle (Brent) Baenen, Scott (Sharon) Nowicki, and Todd (Shelley) Nowicki; 12 great grandchildren, Ava, Hudson, Rose, Autumn, Madelyn, Alex, Ella, Bryant, Davis, Preston, Jaxon, and Sire; one sister, Joan Hannon; one sister-in-law, Pat Brunner.
She was preceded in death by her husband; twin daughters, Mary Ellen and Mary Ann, and daughter, Catherine Susan; three brothers, twin brother, Joseph Brunner, and Harold and Melvin Brunner; sister, Rose Marie Brunner; brother-in-law, Richard Hannon; three sisters-in-laws, Pearl and Lillian Brunner, and Rosemary (Don) Bomber; and her beloved canine companion, Sammy.
Visitation at Malcore (East) Funeral Home, 701 N. Baird St., Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the procession to church. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Saints Peter and Paul Church, 710 N. Baird St., with Rev. Richard Mauthe officiating. Entombment at Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
