Lucy A. (Everard) Strebel

June 6, 1919 — September 16, 2016

Lucy A. (Everard) Strebel, 97, Bay Settlement, passed away on September 16, 2016, at a local nursing home. Born on June 6, 1919, near Champion, she is the daughter of the late Frank and Hortense (Vincent) Everard. Lucy’s parents died before she reached age 12, forcing her to grow up early. She lived with an older sibling as a youth, helping with their farm work and also did house work for others.

She married Alvin Strebel on September 27, 1941 at St. Hubert Church in Sugarbush, and he preceded her in death on June 16, 2000. Lucy and Alvin lived on the Strebel family farm, where she helped run the farm and raise six children. Lucy and Alvin’s first child, Richard, was born shortly after Alvin was transferred to Europe to serve in World War II. She was left to care for Richard for three years while Alvin served his country.

Lucy and Alvin enjoyed traveling after their retirement from farming. Travel highlights included seeing Pope John Paul II while visiting Canada, going to a farm machinery show in Europe, visiting Alaska, and numerous bus trips with people from the Green Bay area. They were long-term active members of Holy Cross Parish, and Lucy always had a rosary with her. She enjoyed gardening, canning, knitting, bowling, and playing cards.

Lucy is survived by six children, Richard (Delores) Strebel, Appleton, Gary (Susan) Strebel, Diane Pavlik, both of Green Bay, Karen Stock, Abrams, Alice (Larry) Epstein, Green Bay, Randall (Marlene) Strebel, New Franken; 14 grandchildren, Lawrence (Sandra) Strebel, Cynthia (Brian) Reynolds, Michael (Sandra) Strebel, Vicki (Dori Kinjerski) Strebel, Dean Peters, Brian (Reyne) Peters, Laurie (Bret) Vandenbush, Mark (Holly) Novitski, Renee (Cory) Lemirande, Lisa (Randy Dittberner) Schaefer, Daniel Davister (Angie Hudson), Angela (Daniel) Dille, Amanda (Scott) Anderson, Alyssa (Andrew) Deckert; 14 great grandchildren; eight step-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Regina Everard, Rita Strebel, both of Green Bay.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin; father and mother-in-law, Michael (Minnie) Strebel; three sisters, Alice (Orville) Jadin, Myrtle (Alvin) DeKaster, Mamie (Fred) Delcore; six brothers, George (Dorothy) Everard, Alvin (Mildred) Everard, Eddie (Lillian) Everard, Harry (Verna) Everard, Edwin Everard, and Wilfred Everard; one grandchild, Tammy Novitski; five sisters-in-law, Delia (Paul) Caelwaerts, Julia (James) Basten, Irene (Jerome) DeKeyser, Evelyn (William) Streckenbach, Mary Ann (Myron) Arnoldi; six brothers-in-law, Clarence (Myrtle) Strebel, Arthur (Ellen) Strebel, Henry (Mabel) Strebel, Edward (Irene) Strebel, Fred Strebel, Donald (Irene) Strebel; three sons-in-law, John Stock, Rodger Anderson, Don Pavlik.

Visitation at Malcore (East) Funeral Home, 701 N. Baird St., Sunday from 2-6 p.m., with a rosary at 5:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday at Holy Cross Church-Bay Settlement, 3002 Bay Settlement Rd, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m. at the church with Rev. Mike Weber officiating. Entombement at Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Unity Hospice and the staff at Odd Fellow Nursing home for the love, patience, and care given to Lucy.
