Joyce Jean Klunk

Joyce Jean Klunk, 83, Green Bay, died unexpectedly Friday afternoon, July 12, 2013, at a local hospital with her family at her side. Born September 23, 1929, in Green Bay, she is the daughter of the late Harold and Hazel (Goddard) Smith. Joyce graduated from West De Pere High School and attended Spencerian Business College in Milwaukee where she met the love of her life, Walter “Wally” Klunk. On October 9, 1948, the couple was married at Union Congregational Church in De Pere. Wally preceded her in death on November 25, 2010, after 62 years of loving marriage. Joyce had worked as a private secretary at Milprint in De Pere before opting to become a full time homemaker. She enjoyed her time playing tennis, boating, playing golf and especially playing Bridge. Joyce loved spending time at her cabin up north and her condo in Florida. She adored her canine companion, Muffy, but above all, she truly treasured her time with her four daughters.

Joyce was active in many activities within the community. She had served as past-president of the Bellin Hospital Auxiliary where she had also volunteered for over 35 years. She served in many other organizations including as the past-president of the Preble Middle School P.T.A.; Girl Scout leader and board member; at Heritage Hill she served on the Guild Board, Cotton Club and as a volunteer; Antiquarian Society; Brown County Historical Society; De Pere Women’s Club; Green Bay YWCA; Red Cross; Green Bay Senior Women’s Club; member of Shorewood Golf Club and Oneida Country Club; N.E.W. Zoo; Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club; Neville Public Museum; Door County Maritime Museum; a member and Sunday School teacher at Union Congregational Church; and a current member of First United Methodist Church.

Joyce is survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda Alexander, Susan (Dean) Meyer, of Green Bay, Wendy (Greg) Paradis, of Flowery Branch, GA and Cindy (significant other, Craig Loritz) Dehn of Green Bay; seven grandchildren, Bret (Gina) Alexander, Dawn (significant other, Jeff Long) Alexander, Jennifer (Wayne) Prosecky, Melissa Parker, Lance (Danelle) Paradis, Mark (Tonia) Paradis, and Kayla (significant other, Eric Zank) Stroschein; one step-granddaughter, Josie Loritz; 16 great-grandchildren, Brody, Portia, Dakota, Josh, Tayler, Chance, Journie, Tanner, Libertie, Angelica, Isabella, Aden, Sierra, Alana, Lily and Kason; one brother and sister-in-law, Gerald (Marge) Smith of Punta Gorda, FL; one brother-in-law, Marvin (Sandra) Kramer of Waupaca; many nieces and nephews; and her many, many true good friends.

She was preceded by her loving husband, Wally; parents, Harold and Hazel Smith; and two cherished great-grandchildren, Alexia Prosecky and Chad Jonathan “C.J.” Parker.

Visitation at MALCORE (West) Funeral Home, 1530 West Mason Street, Sunday from 4-8pm. Visitation to continue Monday afternoon at First United Methodist Church, 501 Howe Street, Green Bay, 2:30pm until the time of the funeral. Funeral service, 4pm Monday at the church with Rev. David Kalas officiating. She will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Joyce’s family extends a very special thank you to Lifeline (which was a true blessing), the first responders that assisted her, and the caring staff of Bellin Hospital.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to Bellin School of Nursing or Heritage Hill.
