John “Jerry” VanderMeuse, 88, Green Bay, found peace early Monday, March 2, 2015, at a local nursing home while surrounded by his family. Born Feb. 10, 1927, in the Town of Red River, he is the son of the late Desire and Flora (DeVos) VanderMeuse. Jerry faithfully served in the US Army from 1945 though 1947. He married the former Anna Mae Deterville in Sugarbush on June 16, 1951. Jerry was a dedicated employee of Pauly Cheese for 39 years, retiring in 1988. He was also a member of Teamster Union Local #75. Jerry enjoyed his time parking cars for both the Packers and at the Resch Center. He was a long time member of Saints Peter and Paul Parish. Jerry will be remembered for his joy of gardening, woodworking, as a general handyman, but mostly for the great joy he took in his children, grandchildren and his granddogs.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anna Mae; three children, Jean VanderMeuse of Allouez, Ron (Valerie) VanderMeuse of Luxemburg, and Joan (Joe) Phelps of Tuscaloosa, AL; five grandchildren, Dan (Aina), Ted, and Rob VanderMeuse, and Anna and Maria Phelps; sisters-in-law, Barb, Mae and Gloria VanderMeuse; and one brother-in-law, Marvin (Angie) Deterville; many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Eli Jacques; five brothers and five sisters; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation at Malcore (East) Funeral Home, 701 N. Baird St. Thursday, from 4-8pm. Prayer service Thursday 7pm at the funeral home. Visitation continues at the funeral home Friday from 9am until the time of the funeral. Funeral Mass, 11am Friday at Saints Peter and Paul Church with Rev. Anthony V. Cirignani, OFM officiating. Full military honors immediately following the funeral mass. Entombment at Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
