John Maedke, 81, Green Bay, passed away peacefully at home, February 24, 2017, surrounded by loved ones. Born on May 25, 1935, in Algoma, to the late Howard and Dorothy (Griffin) Maedke. John graduated from West High School class of ’53. He served in the United States Marine Corps for four years after high school. He married the former Charmaine Francar on January 1, 1965, in Green Bay, and she preceded him in death on October 8, 1979. On September 18, 1965, they welcomed their son Scott. John worked for Gateway Transportation for many years as a Truck Driver. He also worked for Yellow Freight until his retirement in 2002. John was a proud member of the American Legion. He was known for always willing to lend a helping hand. John enjoyed bowling, golfing, and card playing.
He is survived by his son, Scott (Melissa) Maedke; step grandchildren, Alexandra and Jackson Bubnik, Christina and Christopher McKeefry, and Nathan Hadley; sisters, Ruth Williquette, and Marie Etzel; extended relatives, Todd Etzel and Kathy Santineau, Lisa Etzel and special friend Larry Wied, Leanne Schulz, and Pam Hauser; many other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Charmaine; brother-in-law, Clayton Williquette; nephew, Bruce Maedke.
Visitation at Malcore Funeral Home 701 N. Baird St Friday, March 3, from 4 PM until the time of the memorial service at 7 PM. Full military honors to follow. Casual attire encouraged.
