John Joseph Gilson, Jr., 78, Dyckesville, died unexpectedly, Monday, June 24, 2013 at home. Known as Junior to everyone, he was born in Dyckesville at the homestead on March 26, 1935, to the late John and Mary (DeBroux) Gilson, Sr. He married the former Elaine DeMeuse, September 17, 1955, at St. Joseph Church in Sturgeon Bay. Junior was the youngest of 4 children and the only boy. He worked the family homestead with his wife farming dairy cattle with the assistance of his grandson, Travis. Junior worked at James River for 40 years and was also a commercial fisherman. He was a member of St. Louis Church in Dyckesville. Junior loved gardening, playing sheep head, and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine of Dyckesville; 6 children, Debbie and Gerry Balli, Barbara (Marvin Pavlik) Gilson, Jeanie and Roger Detrie, Sandy and Dan LaLuzerne all of Green Bay, Linda (fiancé, Phil Greve) Gilson of New Franken, and Dan Gilson of Dyckesville; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 2 sisters, Eunice Bader of Dyckesville and Rita Berger of New Franken; many other relatives and friends.
Junior is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Frances (Ralph) Renier; 2 brothers-in-law, Orbie Bader and Steve Berger.
Visitation at Malcore (East) Funeral Home, University Ave. at Baird Street, Thursday from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Parish wake service 7:30 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home with Parish Director, Pat Ratajczak leading prayers. Friday’s visitation will continue at St. Louis Church, Dyckesville, from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. John H. Van Deuren officiating. Entombment at Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
