Jim Schmitt

November 6, 1957 — August 30, 2017

Jim Schmitt, 59, Green Bay, died unexpectedly on August 30, 2017, following a brief illness. Born on November 6, 1957, in Algoma, he is the son of the late John and Marge (Koss) Schmitt. Jim graduated from Algoma High School, and attended UW-Eau Claire. He worked for the Green Bay Public Schools for most of his career, retiring from Danz Elementary School in maintenance. Jim enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage and sheepshead. He was a lifelong Packers fan who attended games for many seasons.

Jim is survived by six siblings, Greg (Polly) Schmitt, “joe” (Becky) Schmitt, Mark (Nola) Schmitt, Pat (Steve) Becker, Betty Schmitt, and Cindy (Tim) Reindl; two sisters-in-law, Marietta Kenzik and Grace Schmitt; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings, Mary Lou White, Chuck Schmitt, John Schmitt, and Katherine Schmitt.

Visitation at St. Philip the Apostle Church, 312 Victoria Street, Tuesday, September 12, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m. Tuesday (9/12) at the church with the Rev. William Hoffman officiating. Entombment at Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, please make a donation to the Special Olympics or the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
