Janice Ann Thomas, 74, Green Bay, died peacefully at a local nursing home on October 17, 2013. Born on April 14, 1939, in Green Bay, she is the daughter of the late Winford N. and Harriet J. (Vanden Heuvel) Thomas. Janice was a 1957 graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy. She was employed at Catholic Charities for 42 years as the Adoption Coordinator Specialist. Janice loved sports, especially golf, baseball, bowling, and fishing. She enjoyed canning vegetables from her garden, and times spent with her two cats, Cricket and Rascal. In retirement, Janice took pride in making custom candles, and which she sold through her business, Candles By Janice. More than anything, Janice cherished family gatherings and reunions, especially the Fourth of July.
She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Norb (Linda) Thomas, Bellevue; two sisters, Carole A. Thomas, and Claire M. Thomas, both of Allouez; one brother-in-law, Allen Stary, Green Bay; four sisters-in-law, Audrey Thomas, Val Thomas, Eunice Thomas, and Ellie Thomas; many nieces and nephews.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Lorraine and Delores Thomas, and Marilyn Stary; and four brothers, Winford J., Lawrence, Gerald, and James L. Thomas.
Visitation at Malcore (East) Funeral Home, University Ave. at Baird St., Friday from 4 – 8 p.m. Wake service 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Saturday at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 130 Saint Matthews St., from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Philip Dinh-Van-Thiep officiating. Burial in Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home.
