James A. Heemstra, 76, Green Bay, passed away Tuesday morning, Feb. 9, 2016, at home surrounded by his family. Born Sept. 20, 1939, in Illinois, he is the son of the late Clarence and Lydia (Epcke) Heemstra. Jim entered the US Navy soon after graduating high school and served on the USS Diamondhead in the Mediterranean from 1958-62. He worked in sales, a career he thoroughly enjoyed, until 2005. After “retirement,” he continued to work part-time at LaserNet, and later as a volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul. Jim married the former Margaret Davies on June 7, 1974, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 12, 2012. He will be fondly remembered by the members of the ACC Grassroots 61 Cribbage Club where he attained the Silver award. His cribbage accomplishments also include the American Cribbage Club Master Award. Jim enjoyed golf, poker, and grandkids, not necessarily in that order.
