Harry Johnson, 95, Green Bay, formerly of Duval, died peacefully at a local nursing home on February 13, 2015. Born on April 16, 1919, in Duval, he is the son of the late Arthur and Lucy (Mathy) Johnson. Lucy died six months after Harry was born, and consequently he and his brother Louie were raised by his grandmother, the Johnson brothers, Lawrence Johnson, and Ed Mathy. Harry was a graduate of Luxemburg High School and Badger Business School. He began his career at Liebman Packing, and purchased a farm in Duval. He married Helen DeWitt on July 5, 1941, and they had one daughter, Joanne. Harry and Helen ran the farm with the help of Joanne, the Kipp boys, and Dean Bader. He also acted as Secretary of Duvall Farmers. In retirement he moved to Green Bay and volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul and Saints Peter and Paul Church for 18 years. Harry enjoyed playing cards, watching the Packers, dancing to his favorite Polka music, and attending church picnics. He also appreciated car rides from Home Instead. Harry was honored to visit the sick, and took pride in the care that he provided for his beloved wife, Helen, in her final six years. He will be remembered for his hard work ethic, as he removed snow for five neighbors until he was 92 years old. Harry also had a sweet tooth, and looked forward to the first Saturday of the month when the “cookie lady” arrived.
Harry is survived by his loving daughter, Joanne; one sister-in-law, Janice Bodart; nieces and nephews; and special family member, Jean Steeno.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; parents; in-laws; one brother and sister-in-law, Louie (Verna) Johnson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Vern Bodart, Ray (Hazel) Bredael, Harold (Pearl) Coel, Don (Eunice) Steeno, and Richard (Jane and Rosemary) DeWitt.
