Harold F. Koch

November 11, 1916 — July 26, 2015

Harold F. Koch, 98, Green Bay, died on Sunday, July 26, 2015. Born on November 11, 1916, in Ashland, Wis., he is the son of the late Claire (Marchant) and Fred Koch. On August 31, 1939, he married Marian Lefebvre at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Green Bay.
Harold worked for the Green Bay Fire Department from 1943-1972. During that time he became the first full-time Drill Master for the department. In 1973 he helped establish the Allouez Fire Department, where he retired in 1980. Prior to his death, he was the oldest living firefighter in the Green Bay area.

Dad loved sailing. At the age of 19 he built a 35’ sloop with the help of his father. He was not only a big Packers fan, but was also a devoted watcher of the Weather Channel, informing everyone of the daily temperature, as well as the humidity and wind velocity for the next five days. Dad was a devoted husband and a wonderful father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a gentleman of the highest order. Dad lived according to the Golden Rule, yet never seeking or wanting recognition. He was a man of few words – his actions spoke volumes.

Survivors include seven children and spouses, Ronald (Mary Grace) Crowley-Koch, Mt. Prospect, IL, Barbara (Ronald) Mann, Oneida, Jerome Koch (Diane Pleuss), Concord, CA, Patricia Escobar, Bridgewater, NJ, Kathleen (Eugene) Hackbarth, De Pere, Christine Kvalheim, Green Bay, and Jeanne (James) Barnier, Chippewa Falls; 12 grandchildren, Angela Crowley-Koch (Stacy Grogan), Brian Crowley-Koch, Jennifer Mann, Gretchen (Gregory) Kroll, Amy Koch, Robert (Julia) Escobar, Karla Uku, Aaron and Katie Renier, Sarah (Matthew) Kaster, Joshua and Jessica Barnier; eight great grandchildren, Dylan and Lukas Kroll, Evan, Olivia, and Avery Escobar, Mya Uku, Grae Renala, and Luella Kaster.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife in 2001; parents; one brother, Robert Koch; one sister, Irma Santy; and one grandson, Michael Kvalheim.

Friends may greet the family on Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at Mackinaws Grill, 2925 Voyager Drive, at 9:30 a.m. for a memorial service. Malcore (East) Funeral Home & Crematory assisted the family, 432-5579.

Dad will be forever remembered, especially when we recite the verses from “Little Orphan Annie” to the children in our lives.

The family extends a special thank you to Unity Hospice, as well as the staff at Bishop’s Court for their kindness, care and support. You became a second family to our father.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Green Bay Fighters Benevolent Association (GBFFBA) would be welcomed.
