Edward Orton

September 29, 1922 — April 29, 2018

Edward Orton, 95, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 29th, 2018 with his family by his side. He was born on September, 29, 1922 and raised on a farm near Marietta, Minnesota, son of the late George and Bertha Orton. Edward joined the National Guard at sixteen and then the Navy prior to WW2 and, having been stationed on the Pennsylvania as a gunner’s mate, he had been one of the few remaining survivors of Pearl Harbor. In the Pacific theater he participated in nine major engagements, including the world’s largest sea battle in the Philippine Sea. He retired from the military after traveling the world for 24 years, settling in Green Bay, and worked another 13 years at the Wisconsin State Reformatory. Edward loved nothing more than hunting pheasants in the woods on a crisp autumn day, and was devoted to his family, religion, and country.

Edward was preceded in death by his seven siblings: Clara, Florence, Mary, Jeanette, Margaret, David, and Anne. He is survived by three daughters, Katherine (Lon) Wendt, Debra Orton, and Teresa Butler, grandchildren, Monica, Dana, and Rachel, and great grandchildren Connor, Marcus, and Theda.

Family and friends are invited to visit at St. John the Evangelist Parish, 413 St. John St, Green Bay, on Monday, May 7, 2018 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m. with Fr.
