Donald Davis

March 7, 1931 — February 11, 2017

Donald “Don” N. Davis, 85, passed away February 11, 2017. Born on March 7, 1931, in Fond du Lac he is the son of the late Bernard and Lillian (Zupke) Davis. Don graduated from Fond du Lac High School in 1949. After graduation he served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard where he was stationed at various stations and ships from the Gulf of Mexico to the Great Lakes. Donald married the former Doris Mae Weis on October 11, 1952, in a double wedding ceremony with Doris’ twin brother Conrad and Donna (Cleary) Weis at St. John Evangelical Catholic Church in Green Bay and she preceded him in death on January 2, 2013. Don was employed at Green Bay Packaging for thirty-seven years. He served in many positions: from general labor to supervisor, superintendent and production manager. He was a member of TAPPI and FBA (Technical Association; Paper and Pulp Industry and Fiber Box Association). Don served as Chairman of Production Manager of the Chicago area FBA during 1980 and 1981. In 1992 he worked on a committee that developed a corrugated training system and was part of the group that co-authored the system for the Fox Valley Technical College.

During his career he was occasionally called upon by the Dept. of Engineering at the University of Wisconsin Extension Division to speak at training sessions for corrugated container conferences held annually at the V.W. extension center in Madison.

After retirement Don got into a program that allowed him to spend substantial amounts of quality time with his grandchildren. He looked forward to weekends at the cottage doing things that “needed doing” including relaxing.

During the week the yard in Green Bay kept him busy. He was known in the area as the guy on the corner of Edgewood and Hillside with the yard and the flowers and garden.

Donald is survived by his two children, Pamela (Stanley) Gilson of Denmark, and Scott Davis of Green Bay; six grandchildren, Melissa (Adam) Schneider, Jessica McCallum, Krista (Zachary) Carlson, Jennifer Davis and friend Eric Benson, Christine Davis and Christopher Davis; four great grandchildren, Vanessa McCallum, Ali Anna Mortlock, Eleanor Carlson, and Cameron Carlson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Conrad and Irene (Neumann) Weis; brother-in-law, Conrad Weis; sister-in-law, Donna Weis and sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Gary Wegner.
