Cora (Cornelisen) Baeten

October 28, 1916 — April 15, 2015

Cora Baeten, 98, De Pere passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at Rennes Health Center with her family by her side. Cora was born on October 28, 1916, to the late Albert and Sophia (Thomas) Cornelisen of De Pere. After the death of her parents at a very young age, Cora and her 3 siblings lived at St. Joseph Orphanage until she was 13 years of age. She was then placed with the Max Murphy family of De Pere and later with Albert and Mary Petska of Green Bay which became her family.

She married Alvin Baeten on May 24, 1941, at Annunciation Church in Green Bay where they made their home for 55 years. Cora faithfully served as a crossing guard for 38 years on the corner of Dousman St. and Military Avenue. This was her passion, where she provided safety for hundreds of children who truly respected and loved her.

Cora is survived by her 4 children, Peter (Linda) Baeten, Barbara (John) Nelson, Donna (Richard) Theroux and Paula (Robert) Theroux, a son-in-law, Wayne Malcore (Joyce Follstad); 9 grandchildren, Jeffry, Lisa, Kelly, Shawn, Eric, Saralyn, Christopher, Mark, and Julie; and 19 great-grandchildren. Cora had a special place in her heart for Esther VandenPlas and Mildred Van Grunsven. They were a meaningful part in the lives of Cora and her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, the love of her life; her daughter, Ann Malcore at the age of 25 and a grandson, Joel Theroux at the age of 37. She was preceded by a brother, Adrian and two sisters, Cecilia Bailey and Sr. Anastasia (Barbara) and many other relatives.
