Dr. Clayton Edward Whetmore

Dr. Clayton Edward Whetmore, 86, Green Bay, died peacefully at a local assisted living on May 28, 2014. Born on June 13, 1927, in Newburgh, New York, he is the son of the late Edward and Mildred (Clay) Whetmore. Clayton proudly served in the United States Army from August 1945 – December 1946. On September 3, 1950, he married the former Christine Walker in Cortland, New York. Clayton was a graduate of Union College, Lincoln, Neb., and medical school at Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine (KCCOM), in 1960. Subsequently he was in General Practice in Grass Lake, MI, for five years, after which time he returned to KCCOM, where he completed his OB/GYN Residency. Clayton was a Professor in OB/GYN at both KCCOM, and later at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. Over the next 35 years he delivered over 7,000 babies. During that time he also poured his heart and soul into his lifelong dream of starting a Christian Osteopathic Medical School. Clayton was active in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, serving on multiple church and school boards. He also had a passion for Christian Education, encouraging his children and others to attend Christian schools. In his free time, Clayton enjoyed woodworking.

Clayton is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Christine, Green Bay; three children, Dr. Clayton (Sandy) Whetmore, Mc Donald, TN, Dr. George (Debbie) Whetmore, Suamico, and Joy (Jim) Lauck, Datil, NM; eight grandchildren, Heidi (Matt) Maenner, Eric (Jamie) Whetmore, Dennis (Brittaney) Burris, Joseph Burris, Jim (Cherelle) Whetmore, John Whetmore, Becky Whetmore, and Christine (Roger) Penguino; and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation at Malcore (West) Funeral Home, 1530 West Mason Street, Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ted Tromble officiating. Burial in Suamico Cemetery.
