Bernard “Bernie” Francis Tlachac, 82, Green Bay, passed on to his eternal rest surrounded by his loved ones, Wednesday, October 9, 2013, after a courageous battle with Mesothelioma. Born in Algoma, October 4, 1931, he is the son of the late John and Ella (Andre) Tlachac. Bernie married the former Delores Ploor, June 20, 1959, at Saints Peter and Paul Church in the Town of Institute. He spent most of his life in the construction business, working at Algoma Plywood, Joseph Zettle Construction in Sturgeon Bay and then DeCoster Construction in Green Bay until he retired in 1995. Bernie was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Church, Green Bay. There he served on the Financial and Building & Grounds Boards, as well as Parish Council. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and Catholic Knights. Bernie enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening, surfing the web, cribbage, and watching the Green Bay Packers. He especially enjoyed family gatherings and always had a twinkle in his eye when his grandchildren would visit.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Delores; 3 children and their spouses, Julianne (Todd) Elsner of Crivitz, Steven Tlachac of Green Bay, and Kevin (Lisa) Tlachac of Luxemburg; 3 grandchildren, Justin (Becky) Elsner, Ashley Elsner, and Joshua Tlachac; 2 great grandchildren, Kaitlynn and Addyson Elsner; 3 brothers, Adrian (Millie) Tlachac of Carson City, NV, Donald (Dorothy) Tlachac, and Giles (Nancy) Tlachac; brother-in-law, Jerry (Pat) Ploor all of Sturgeon Bay; many other relatives and friends.
Bernie was preceded in death by his parents and godchildren, Michael and Peter Tlachac.
Visitation at Malcore (East) Funeral Home, University Ave. at Baird Street, on Sunday from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Knights of Columbus service 6:45 P.M. followed by the wake service. Visitation will continue on Monday morning from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Tony Cirignani, OFM officiating and Deacon Mike Vincent concelebrating. Entombment at Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established with donations being made to the American Cancer Society and Heartland Hospice.
